New twist in the Platini-Blatter soap opera, which dates back to 2015. While Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter were acquitted of the charge of fraud against them, on July 8, by the Federal Criminal Court of Bellinzona, the Swiss Federal Prosecutor’s Office indicated in a press release on Thursday, October 20, that he was appealing this decision.

Last June, the two men appeared in connection with a controversial payment of 2 million Swiss francs (1.8 million euros) made by Fifa to Michel Platini. In a case where they faced five years in prison, the Swiss prosecution then requested a sentence of one year and eight months in prison suspended against the French and the Swiss.

The public prosecutor filed a notice of appeal with the Court of Appeal of the Federal Criminal Court and “requested the total annulment of the judgment of first instance”, the statement said. This call is not a surprise: the prosecution had announced its intention on Tuesday, October 18.
