“Christophe Galtier no longer manages the first team of OGC Nice. This Monday, the recovery of the Aiglons was led by Lucien Favre, whose return the club is proud to announce”, writes the OGCN in a press release. Favre, who is 64, was without a club after being dropped by Borussia Dortmund in December 2020.
After two and a half seasons at Borussia Dortmund, where he won a German Super Cup in 2019 and finished second in the Bundesliga, Lucien Favre returns to OGC Nice. With the Cote d’Azur club, he finished third in Ligue 1 in his first year in charge in 2016-2017. The best result of the Aiglons since the place of vice-champion of France in 1976. After the eighth position the following season, the coach had left the Nice bench, replaced by Patrick Vieira.
In his career, the Swiss has notably distinguished himself by winning the cSwiss championship (with FC Zurich in 2006 and 2007), the Swiss Cup (with Servette in 2001 and FC Zurich in 2005), and finally, more recently, the German Supercup (2019). He also has several distinctions on his CV: best coach in Switzerland in 2006 and 2007 and in Germany in 2009, 2012 and 2015.
His now predecessor, Christophe Galtier, is currently in discussions with PSG.
