A man suspected of having refused to comply in the car on the night of Saturday to Sunday September 25 in Anglet (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) and of having injured five police officers was arrested on Monday September 27. An operation carried out by the Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) and investigators from the Bayonne judicial police, franceinfo learned from a source familiar with the matter. His partner, who was driving another car, was also arrested.
The police had intervened to put an end to an urban rodeo in the town of Anglet. Five police officers were slightly injured, one of them using his weapon, while the driver restarted and rushed at him, before hitting a second police vehicle and continuing his race. The suspect was previously wanted.
The 41-year-old homeless individual is currently in police custody, as is his 34-year-old companion who was in a stolen car, according to France Bleu Pays Basque. The man is already known to the police and has already been convicted in the past for traffic offences.
An investigation has been opened by the Bayonne public prosecutor’s office for “attempted murder of a person holding public authority” and for “aggravated refusal to comply and endangering the life of a police officer”.
