The suspect in the series of robberies in the Dordogne has admitted the facts, said France Bleu Périgord on Wednesday. Arrested on Tuesday, he explained to the investigators that he had committed these thefts to pay for cocaine, announced the public prosecutor. During a search of his home, investigators discovered a truncheon and the handgun used in the incident, which turned out to be fake.

The 50-year-old must be presented Wednesday afternoon to an investigating judge at the Périgueux court. A judicial investigation for “theft with a weapon” and “extortion with a weapon” is open. The three other people also taken into custody since Tuesday have been exonerated.

The “bob robber” attacked four stores, supermarkets in the Périgueux agglomeration, between Monday August 22 and Saturday August 27, for a total loot of nearly 4,600 euros. The suspect, originally from Montpellier, has twenty entries on his criminal record since 1995, mainly for theft. The last conviction dates from 2019. Released from detention in October 2021, he settled a few months later in Dordogne.
