On Wednesday February 7, François Bayrou, president of MoDem, indicated that he did not wish to join the government. Comments which surprised within his party and in the majority.

Following his resounding refusal to enter the government, François Bayrou justified his decision by a lack of deep agreement with the government on the policy to follow. “What I see is the multiplication of indications that we are not going to balance or stop the crisis, but we are acting as if it did not exist”, indicates the president of MoDem. François Bayrou assures that the MoDem remains in the majority, but he refuses to commit to voting on the texts of the next government in the National Assembly.

“Put pressure on the President of the Republic”

This positioning is embarrassing within the party itself. “I think he has put us, overall, in a very worrying situation. Either we all resign, but that means we disagree, or we stay.”, assures Jean-Louis Bourlingues, MoDem deputy for Hauts-de-Seine. These comments also surprised the majority. “I think he wants to put pressure on the President of the Republic”analyzes Ludovic Mendes, Renaissance deputy for Moselle.
