The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) launched a police operation on Tuesday morning in an area of Sept-Îles where Perreault, Noël and Radisson avenues are located after a possibly armed man was seen. He is actively sought after.
The SQ specifies that the suspect would possibly be carrying a silver-barreled firearm and that he could be dangerous. He would have his face masked, would wear gloves as well as clothes and a black backpack.
The police are asking residents of this area not to approach the suspect if they see him, to lock their doors and to move away from the windows of their house.
The Iron School Service Center announced shortly before 9:00 a.m. that until further notice, students from Jean-du-Nord and Manikoutai schools were invited to stay at home, since classes are suspended for the morning.
People already present in schools had to stay there.
As for the students who were in the school transport, they had to be brought home.
