The company that bought the Montreal building last December must “take the necessary measures to maintain operation and certification […] as a private residence for category 1 seniors, ”ordered Judge Sylvain Lussier in a decision rendered on Tuesday.

The certificate of compliance that the company had returned to the Integrated University Health and Social Services Center (CIUSSS) of the Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal must therefore be returned to it, added the judge.

“This victory is important for us, because without this judgment, RPA’s services would have ceased as of 1er August,” rejoiced one of the tenants, Nicole Jetté, who acted as an applicant in the appeal.

The order is in effect until September 19.

“It allows us to safeguard our living environment until the Superior Court hears us again, in particular to enforce the deed of sale in which the owner undertook to continue operating the Immovable as RPA,” said Mr.me Thrown in a statement.

“Mobilizing and having your rights recognized is ageless, we have proof of that today! “Commented the spokesperson for Quebec solidaire, Manon Massé, in a written statement.

The tenants of 955 René-Lévesque East received an eviction notice informing them that their RPA would be converted into a conventional apartment building, without a nurse or supervision, had revealed The Press last February. Québec solidaire strongly denounced the situation.

“They can count on Québec solidaire to fight the battle by their side until the end,” said Ms.me Massé by promising to “legislate once and for all to prohibit changes in the vocation of RPAs and the abusive evictions of seniors” if his party is brought to power.
