The summer terraces will be able to open until midnight, instead of 10 p.m., during the period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, franceinfo learned on Friday March 15 from the Umih (Union of Hospitality Trades and Industries), confirming information from Parisian. This exemption will be valid from July 1 to September 8, the end date of the Paralympic Games. “This responds to our request, we have been granted and it is very good news”rejoices on franceinfo Frank Delvau, president of Umih Paris Île-de-France.

“These are the terraces that we can install, after validation of the file, in parking spaces or in front of the front of establishments”, details Frank Delvau. During the summer of 2023, more than 4,000 summer terraces were installed in Paris.

The summer terraces are set up from April 1st

This announcement delights the profession. “When we say that the Olympic Games should be a party, the party doesn’t stop at 10 p.m. for tourists and Parisians, especially during the summer. We prefer that the customers, that the many tourists who will be there, the supporters of the Olympic Games are at home, on our terraces and that we celebrate the French medals together.”underlines the boss of Umih Paris Île-de-France. “It’s a great satisfaction after a complicated period for the catering sector”he recalls.

The summer terrace system begins on April 1, but restaurants, bars and brasseries can still make a request to Paris town hall. “The file must be handled by the city’s planning department” which validates the authorization specifies Frank Delvau.
