A family matter. Adam Yates (UAE) won the first stage of the Tour de France 2023, Saturday July 1, in Bilbao (Spain), ahead of his twin Simon (Jayco AlUla). Tadej Pogacar’s teammate distanced his brother in the home stretch and will wear the yellow jersey on Sunday. The Slovenian, expected as one of the big favorites for the final victory, won the sprint for third place, giving him four bonus seconds in the general classification.

After blowing up the peloton, delivering the expected fireworks, Pogacar thus created a first gap, albeit slight, with his designated rival Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), who arrived just behind him (9th). The two Frenchmen from Groupama-FDJ Thibaut Pinot (4th) and David Gaudu (10th) are in the top 10, as is Victor Lafay (Cofidis), 6th.
