The inhabitants of the Marseille city had the first to discover the feature film taken from the famous Marseille web-series. Segpas was created in 2016 by Hakim and Ali Bougheraba, two children from Marseille.

The earthy group of friends from the web-series has, in the film, changed school universe. Transferred from Segpa, a section reserved for college students who cannot follow a classic course, they joined, to their surprise, a prestigious college in Marseille. But the principal, anxious to preserve the good reputation of his establishment, does not intend to keep them. He sets up a whole scheme to send them back while keeping the helpers. The Segpa discover the principal’s schemes. Integrated and happy with their new life, they do everything to thwart his plan.

As in the series, humor is more present than ever. At the end of the Marseille preview, the public gave the film crew a standing ovation. A packed house filled with teenagers. “I liked it. It impressed me. The film is incredible”, says this young spectator. A fervor to which not everyone adheres. Last January, when the trailer was unveiled, many voices were raised against the film co-produced by Cyril Hanouna. On social networks, Internet users accuse him of caricaturing the students of Segpa. Among them, Rachid Zerrouki, Marseille teacher in Segpa class and author of a book on the subject, The Incasables. “My students have guts. They’re not the jerks I was shown in the trailer and in the YouTube series the movie is based on,” he castigates during an interview granted to our colleagues from France 3.

A controversy that makes the two directors of the film react. “We really don’t want to stigmatize Segpa. We really think that the worst student can be framed and have a gift in a specific area”, tempers Hakim Bougheraba. “He just has to find his way” he concludes. Students denigrated or not, it is now up to the public to form their own opinion.
