A jeans brand, 1083, decided a few years ago to manufacture everything in France. An operation that works so well that the company has started to produce its own French cotton.

Blue, white and red is a DNA, a common thread for a 100% French jeans brand, named 1083, based in Drôme. Everything is done within a radius of 1,083 kilometers, with the exception of organic cotton, produced in Africa. “Ten years ago were seen as aliens, utopians”, says Alexia Coupier, from the brand’s development department. Yet this utopia has become reality. In 2022, the company made 12 million euros in turnover. Recently the brand also bought a factory in the Vosges, thus increasing to 105 employees.

French cotton production revived?

Here, the average price of jeans is 130 euros, a rather competitive price compared to major international brands, despite the often higher labor cost. “We operate at tight flow and we produce at tight flow, so there is no waste, no loss. On the other hand, customers are sometimes forced to wait or go through the pre-order”, explains Alexia. To go even further in Made in France, the brand supports cotton crops in Gers and Drôme.
