Crocq college students will find real classrooms starting February 28 ! These students lost their establishment in October: the Crocq college, which accommodates 150 students and educational staff, had to close, the building was too dilapidated. Since then, they had classes in a summer camp building, waiting for a better solution. She has been found! College students will have an appointment at the start of the school year in a college of Giat, in the Puy de Dôme, about fifteen kilometers further.
Create a real new college
Chairs, paintings, books, the movers are busy. Everything must be ready for the arrival of the studentss. “We move almost everything, explains Eric Carriou, the director of colleges for the departmental council, which leads the operations. In fact, a college is being reconstituted. It’s a big job. We have the walls, that’s good. Now, we have to put the furniture back, make sure that it corresponds well to the teaching conditions of the teachers.”
The goal is for students to be in the best possible learning conditions. Even if the building is quite dilapidated, Eric Carriou is very happy that a solution more viable than the summer camp has been found. “The teaching conditions were not favorable to the summer camp, the classes were not made for that. There, we are much closer to an almost normal college. We made sure that in the college of Giat, the teachers find conditions such as they knew them at the college of Crocq.
Moving an entire college, to another department, “it is extremely rare“, laughs Eric Carriou. But the situation demanded it. “It is very difficult to find a building that is capable of currently accommodating 150 people, including 115 students, especially in terms of catering. So the only possibility we had in a radius not too far from Crocq was that of Giat.”
A temporary solution
But beware, this is a temporary solution. Out of the question that the college of Crocq closes its doors. “What is planned is to do everything so that the children return to Crocq college as quickly as possible”, assures Eric Carriou. And to make life easier for both students and parents, school buses will be going back and forth between Crocq and Giat every day.
