The first names of Gabriel Attal’s new government were announced Thursday January 11. A right-oriented government, which has sparked criticism from left-wing elected officials.

The first names for the Prime Minister’s new government were revealed on Thursday January 11. The new team composed by Gabriel Attal includes heavyweights from the presidential party, like Gérald Darmanin or Sébastien Lecornu, as well as two new right-wing ministers. Big surprises of this reshuffle, Catherine Vautrin and Rachida Dati were appointed respectively to the Ministry of Labor and Health and to the Ministry of Culture. Rachida Dati, a major figure of the Republicans (LR) who was Keeper of the Seals during the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy, was excluded from the party by Éric Ciotti after the announcement of his appointment.

“There, we have a Sarkozy government”

A government oriented to the right, which has not escaped left-wing politicians. “There, we have a Sarkozy government”regrets Olivier Faure, first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS). “Macron was a right-wing program. Now, it’s also a very right-wing government, so we know who we’re dealing with”for his part reacted Éric Coquerel, deputy for La France insoumise (LFI).
