Parcels not found, indicated as already delivered or simply late… The holiday period generates a lot of shipments and a lot of stress for senders and recipients alike. Jean-Philippe for example: he leaves his post office without his parcel because it cannot be found. “There was simply a labeling error on the package and as a result, there is no package”he explains. I have two hours to redeem a gift.”
Some are luckier, they get their package, after a few cold sweats. “It was borderline! says a lady who placed her order at the beginning of December. The post office employee had a lot of trouble finding them, since it was marked as delivered. So, she still searched in the reserve for I don’t know how long and fortunately she found them.”
Another customer is waiting for a gift ordered online. “This is the second time I have come because the package had to arrive at a point-relay, but finally he is here, she says. I have a lot of problems with the delivery people.”
“Sometimes it says that the package was delivered to the caretaker, but I’m the caretaker of the building!”

106 million Colissimo delivered
For Salomé Ruel, professor of logistics management in a business school at Excelia Business School, the increase in lost packages is explained by the difficulties in recruiting in the logistics sector, which offers difficult and unattractive professions. : “The problem during these periods is : are there enough Santa Claus ‘elves’ in the different warehouses to ensure that these packages are properly managed? ?”
“When a barcode is damaged, a little erased, we have a little difficulty finding where we need to manually replace this package. And when we have a lot of volume, we have less trouble time to deal with these exceptions and errors”, she adds.
This year again, the quantities of packages are impressive. For example, the Post Office is delivering nearly 106 million Colissimo items during this holiday period, an increase of 6% compared to last year.
