the Strasbourg Christmas market at a time of energy sobriety

After the controversy over the list of prohibited products for sale
, the city of Strasbourg regains control of its communication on the Christmas market and announces Thursday “unprecedented” measures in terms of energy sobriety. The objective is to reduce electricity consumption by 5 to 10%.

To achieve this, as in Colmar
, the opening hours of the Chriskindelsmärik will be reduced. The chalets will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Friday 25 November to Saturday 24 December. This represents a shortfall of 12 hours per month for merchants. Schedules previously varied on weekdays and weekends.

Illuminations reduced by 20%

All lighting will be LED, to consume less energy. A process that has already been underway for many years. The city will also reduce by 20% its illuminations (it manages around 50% of the Christmas illuminations) and redeploy them.

Places that are already very well lit, such as Place de la République or Place Broglie, will be a little less well equipped to install these decorations elsewhere in Strasbourg. Finally the town hall will turn off the lights earlier, at 11 p.m., and from the beginning of January.

She will not dismantle all her light installations once the Christmas market is over in order to save energy again. The traders of the golden square have not planned to reduce their lighting. But they should test illuminations with photovoltaic recharge.

Finally, as everywhere in France, heating in the chalets will be prohibited.
