In England and Scotland, Storm Gerrit blew very hard during the night from Wednesday 27 to Thursday 28 December. Wind gusts of more than 130 km/h were recorded.

Storm Gerrit has swept across the UK with wind gusts of over 130km/h and heavy rain. In England, roofs blown off, trees uprooted, brick walls that gave way… Residents of many towns discovered their neighborhoods disfigured after the storm’s lightning passage. “I sat up in bed and heard a noise, like a growling getting louder and louder, confides a local resident. It was thirty seconds of total uproar.

Bad weather also in Scotland

In total, around 100 homes were damaged but no injuries were reported. On the transport side, the violent gusts of wind also caused some scares: planes bouncing upon landing, a train hitting a tree… Bad weather which did not spare Scotland or the Shetland Islands where fish and algae covered the fields because of the wind.
