Jean-Félix Acquaviva, MP for the second constituency of Haute-Corse, comments on Gérald Darmanin’s proposal regarding the island’s autonomy. He evokes the example of French Polynesia, whose status could be a model for Corsica.

Wednesday, March 16, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin proposed the autonomy of Corsica. Could the island be inspired by the model of French Polynesia? “The status of Polynesia is a status of autonomy”, explains Jean-Félix Acquaviva, MP for the second constituency of Haute-Corse. This status would “to set up rules of regulatory and legislative scope to bite into the specific economic, social and cultural reality of Corsica”according to him.

“The sovereign (justice, defense and police) would remain with the state. Today, we are at the beginning of a process”adds Jean-Félix Acquaviva. “If the reference is the status of Polynesia, this is the right level of discussion. It remains to agree on a step-by-step process with a method, a timetable and the commitment of the State in terms of continuity”he concludes.
