More than 1,500 earthquakes announce the new awakening of a volcano in the southwest of Iceland. A town was evacuated on Sunday November 12.

The asphalt did not hold up. In amateur images, we can see a destroyed road in the southwest of Iceland. THE movement of magma under the earth’s crust causes land uprisings and earthquakes. Residents fear an eruption, like the one that hit the volcanic island in July.

Emergency state

Iceland has declared a state of emergency because the fracture, 15 kilometers long, threatens a port of almost 4,000 inhabitants. Grindavik had to be evacuated. “I refuse to think about the worst case scenario, that I might have nothing left, that the house I built might disappear“, confides a resident. Specialists do not know precisely where and when the eruption could take place. In 2010, that of another volcano, in the south of Iceland, affected the whole world, leading to the cancellation of some 100,000 flights.
