The standoff is intensifying between Paris and London (United Kingdom). The first retaliatory measures inflicted by France on the United Kingdom will come into force on Tuesday, November 2.
In Jersey, since France threatens the island with retaliatory measures, the inhabitants feel trapped in a conflict that seems to overtake them. Fishermen risk being more controlled or even deprived of landing in France in the coming days. “It has become a political affair and we fishermen are caught in the vices. It is simply a dispute between two governments”, testifies a fisherman from the island of Jersey.
The island of Jersey is linked to France to be supplied with electricity. The latter plans to increase energy prices and reduce the amount of power available on the island. “We believe the measures are disproportionate and unnecessary. We should sit around a table and not take unilateral decisions.”, reports Ian Gorst, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jersey.
