The years go by and they all look the same. Once again, the Stade de Reims missed out on its Coupe de France meeting. Facing Bastia this Saturday in Delaune, the Rémois had nevertheless put the right ingredients to open the way to the quarter. Faced with committed Corsicans, the Rémois tried to make themselves dangerous by their sides. But neither the center of Mitchell Van Bergen, nor the recovery ofHugo Ekiike, nor the strike of Jens Cajust did not allow deliverance, the fault, each time, to a vigilant Johny Placide.
Suffocated in the axis, the Rémois decide to go through the wings. Ilan Kebbal launches Mitchell Van Bergen but his cross for Hugo Ekitiké is a bit too strong. Regardless, the trio tried their luck again a few minutes later, this time with success. And if Yevhann Diouf must make a magnificent save at close range before the break, the Rémois logically returned to the locker room with a slight lead.
Gravel not rewarded
But as too often, Reims thwarts the return of the locker room. Less dangerous, the locals let the Corsicans liven up, and it still takes a decisive Yevhann Diouf to delay the deadline. But stepping back, happened what had to happen. And the technical gestures of Cadjus and Ekitiké, although appreciated, did not prevent the return of visitors. Sébastien Salles Lamonge, after a good combination, sent a shot twenty minutes from the end which hit home. The two teams never let go. Fateful, the penalty shootout will not succeed in Andrew Gravel whose match was good until this last shot. It will be fatal for the continuation of the adventure in the Coupe de France at the Stade de Reims. Disappointed, the Rémois will have to get up quickly before facing Bordeaux next Sunday. At the risk of affording a few additional headaches.
