In the hours following the murder, Leduc was initially considered a victim and not a suspect. However, things changed during the investigation.

In a video filmed by a witness and obtained by the QMI Agency, we can see the interactions between Leduc and the police officers dispatched to the scene to help him.

“Let me handle the situation! Let me handle the situation,” says Leduc to a police officer who tries to reason with him.

“I attack everyone with my fists! I am a warrior! I’m a real white guy!” he then screams, before uttering growls of rage.

Visibly intoxicated, Leduc was finally taken to hospital to treat significant injuries.

The man killed during the general brawl was well known in police circles. He had a long criminal history, including domestic violence, gun possession, assault and drug trafficking.

Furtado-Bénard would be considered by the police to be close to the boss Jean-Philippe Célestin, whose young brother was murdered in Montreal in mid-February and whose mother’s residence was targeted by gunfire on the weekend -last end.

Leduc, for his part, has a criminal record of aggravated assault, carrying a weapon and armed assault.

His case is due back in court at the end of April.
