Two days after apprehending a first suspect, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) announces that it has made new arrests in the Meriem Boundaoui murder case.
The then 15-year-old was killed in the early evening of Sunday February 7, 2021 when she found herself in the middle of a shooting involving two groups she had no connection to.
In a summons sent to the media on Wednesday morning, the SPVM indicated that it wanted to take stock of “major developments” in this investigation, including “additional arrests”.
On Monday, 26-year-old Salim Touaibi was charged at the Montreal courthouse in connection with the murder of the teenager. The suspect had already been detained in a provincial center since March in connection with another case of violence and possession of a firearm.
He appeared briefly Monday afternoon by videoconference and will return to court on July 22 to face charges of first degree murder, in addition to four attempted murders.
At a press conference on Monday, SPVM commander Salvatore Serrao did not want to confirm that Salim Touaibi was the one who hit the young woman during the shooting. She was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle when the conflict broke out between people on the sidewalk and individuals in a second vehicle.
On Wednesday afternoon, the acting director of the SPVM, Sophie Roy, will speak to journalists at a neighborhood station in Saint-Léonard.
The Mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, and the Commander of the Major Crimes Section of the SPVM, Paul Verreault, will also be present.
