The 34-year-old man, a plumber by profession, claimed to have work to do in the apartment of a young woman. After an initial refusal to let him in, the suspect returned an hour later claiming to have to do work in the lower apartment. The victim let him in.

After starting work in the kitchen, Mr. Berdous attempted a rapprochement with the young woman. He approached her and asked her if she lived alone. The victim pushed him away twice and threatened to call the police. She finally managed to get him to leave the place.

The SPVM investigation shows that the suspect could have used this scheme to make other victims, the police said in a press release.

Mr. Berdous is a man of North African origin. He has black hair and eyes, is 1.80 m tall and weighs 67 kg. He speaks in French.

The man appeared on March 28 at the Montreal courthouse where he was charged with sexual assault. He was released on conditions.
