The spokesperson for the Right to Housing (DAL) association, Jean-Baptiste Eyraud, was arrested on Tuesday April 12 in Paris for “rebellion”, according to the police headquarters, during a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Housing. He was placed in police custody, specifies the association in a press release, in which it protests against this arrest which it describes as “muscular”.

According to the DAL, as protesters joined “the roadway as planned in the declaration of demonstration filed in the Prefecture, the police intervened brutally”. “They violently tackled Jean-Baptiste Eyraud to the ground”before he was taken to the police station where he was “signified his custody for ‘rebellion'”.

The DAL denounced a “violent arrest during a peaceful demonstration of women, men and children” and asked “immediate release” by Jean-Baptiste Eyraud as well as “the cessation of all proceedings against him”.

And the association is not the only one to express its indignation. This is particularly the case of the former Minister of Housing, Cécile Duflot, who was quick to show her support for the activist. John the Baptist is an institutionshe writes on Twitter. A man committed and respected by all. Of all the housing ministers in particular. I’m really outraged to see this.”
