“The spirit of responsibility must prevail”, estimated Monday, November 6 on franceinfo Hervé Marseille, president of the Union Centrist group in the Senate while the examination of the text of the immigration bill begins in the afternoon at the Luxembourg Palace. The Republicans still oppose article 3 which plans to simplify the regularization of undocumented workers in professions in shortage.

“I am quite optimistic and I don’t see how, on a text like this, we could not find a compromise,” he declares. “The door is open for debate. There are still a certain number of hours, perhaps days, to work. I very much hope that we will find a solution,” he added.

Hervé Marseille judge “essential” that the text be voted on in the Senate. “The institutions would be degraded because there is no majority in the Assembly. If there start to be majority problems in the Senate, I don’t know how we will function in the coming weeks”, he explains. According to him, “the point of institutional balance is located in the Senate”.

The Republicans denounced an article which, according to them, sent the wrong signal and pointed out the risk of a false impression: “I don’t see where the catch is. These are people who have expired papers or who came to work, who had a student visa and who are asking for regularization. These are not people who ‘we bring in, these are people who are there’he explained.
