Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, announced on Monday, September 9, that the speed limit on the Paris ring road would be 50 km/h, instead of 70 km/h, starting October 1. The city hall of the capital believes that the change to 50 km/h will reduce accidents, noise and pollution, as it does every time the speed is reduced. After this announcement concerning the Paris ring road, motorists and motorcyclists do not seem to be happy.
Users are concerned about the consequences of this measure. “More traffic means more traffic jams, therefore more pollution. We should at least keep the speed limit at 70 km/h or even 80 km/h,” says a motorist. Many fear an increase in the number of accidents. If for the moment the mayor of Paris has announced the measure for the beginning of October, she is not the only decision maker. The State must also give its verdict.
