The South Channel will host the France Avenir road cycling championships

To host these France Avenir championships, the organizing committee can count on its local vital forces: the Saint Hilairien bike club, the Avranches bike club or the Polynormande Olympic club, which organizes the eponymous race.

During these five days of trials, August 9 to 13, 11 titles of champion or champions of France will be in play. The young riders will compete in five time trials and six road races, depending on their age and gender. The Mont Saint-Michel Normandie cycling organizing committee counts for the moment 962 engaged for the event, aged 13 to 22. This actually represents a little less runners, since some take part in several events, but it gives an idea of ​​the extent of the logistics to be put in place. For each day of competition, a hundred volunteers and flaggers will be necessary to secure the areas around the roads in the municipalities of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët and Saint-Martin-de-Landelles.

A 2022 edition… Before 2024

The president of the organizing committee, Gilbert Daniel, is also pleased with the showcase that this event represents for the region: “It will highlight the whole of the South Channel!”

These France Avenir championships have a particular resonance, because the Mont Saint-Michel Normandie urban community will also host in two years, in 2024, the French Elite Cycling Championships. This edition is therefore an opportunity, according to Gilbert Daniel: “I have always advocated that we must first organize competitions for young peopleexplains the mayor of the delegated municipality of Chèvreville and cyclist, too. There, we come out of the Tour de France. If we want professionals later, we have to give them the opportunity to race today.” Especially since, according to him, cyclists who perform from an early age are often those found on professional podiums.
