During the national tribute paid to Jacques Delors at the Invalides this Friday, January 5, 2024, the president of the Republic Emmanuel Macron recalled his beginnings at the head of the European Commission in 1985. “It is the candidacy of Jacques Delors which is accepted”, he recalls. Jacques Delors will remain the president of this institution until 1995.

He then recalled the origins of Jacques Delors. “So many decades after the Great War, the son of a Corrèze soldier will hold in his hands the project of a continent, to reconcile peoples from now on, so that no life is ever again cut down, mutilated by the blindness of the men.” He salutes a politician who “truly reconciled France with Europe and Europe with its future.”
