To mark its 100th anniversary, and to face foreign competition, an Alsatian sock company is offering free tours of its factory with employees. Guided tour of Labonal in the 1 p.m., Thursday March 21.

The French sock factory Labonal, located in Dambach-la-ville (Bas-Rhin), has taken on a challenge after a century of existence. That of opening its doors to the general public every day of the week. The opportunity for visitors to understand the workings of manufacturing an everyday object, and to meet the 80 employees who make more than a million socks per year. “It’s very impressive, and the end result is beautiful”enthuses a visitor.

Visits to face foreign competition

On the employee side, pride is felt. “It’s nice to see that people are interested in what’s happening in our factory”, confides Nathalie Perrin, employee of the company. Faced with foreign competition, these free visits also aim to boost sales. In just a few months, 4,000 visitors came to discover the factory.
