The outcome was expected. The Social Security budget was adopted at first reading in the National Assembly on Monday, October 31 after the rejection of the motion of censure tabled by La France insoumise. This text tabled after the executive’s appeal to 49.3 on October 26 received only 218 votes out of the 289 necessary.

The other motion of censure, tabled by the National Rally, was also rejected on Monday, supported by only 90 deputies. The LFI motion was supported by the 75 deputies of the La France Insoumise group, but did not refuel in the rest of the left. It was only supported by 19 of the 31 members of the Socialists and Allies group, 19 of the 23 Ecologist deputies, and 16 of the 22 deputies of the Democratic and Republican Left group. For their part, almost all RN parliamentarians (88 out of 89) voted for the motion of censure. In addition, a non-registered deputy, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, chose to give his voice to the text.

The bill must now be considered by the Senate, from Wednesday in committee, and from Monday 7 November in session. This text does not include any measure on pension reform – even if the executive does not rule out introducing an increase in the legal age or the contribution period by an amendment – and emphasizes prevention, the overhaul of nursing homes and the fight against social fraud.
