The National Assembly rejected, on Saturday, November 4, the motion of censure tabled by La France insoumise (LFI) after the government’s use of 49.3 to have its draft Social Security budget adopted. Defended by the rebellious deputy Damien Maudet, this motion received only 89 votes, far from the 289 votes required for obstruct the text and bring down the government. This rejection confirms the adoption at first reading of this text, which must now be examined by the Senate.
This was the 23rd motion of censure against the government of Elisabeth Borne since her arrival at Matignon. It was submitted on Monday by members of the LFI group and a handful of communist elected officials. This budgetary text notably provides for a larger Social Security deficit than in the last financing law in April, estimated at 8.8 billion euros in 2023, then 11.2 billion in 2024. The accounts are weighed down, among other things , by the increase in health insurance expenses.
