The snow panther
The snow leopard lives in the mountains of Asia, towards Mongolia, at high altitudes.
It is also called the ghost of the mountains because it is very difficult to observe. It camouflages itself very, very well in its environment, so it’s very complicated to estimate the number of individuals still alive in the wild.
Snow Leopard Description:
- Big paws to walk well in the snow.
- A tail long enough to wrap up well and keep warm. Its tail also serves as a pendulum. She can climb well in the mountains and in the trees,
- Fairly light coat with spots. In the mountains, it camouflages itself very well in the landscape
Nala and Gabriel, the snow panthers of the animal park
Nala, the female, and Gabriel, the male, have completely different characters. Gabriel is a cat day, a panther day. Sometimes, he will rather be a player. He will easily come to see the healers. When he is not happy, he knows very well how to make it understood that he is indeed a panther. Nala is very calm, very discreet. She is more distant with the healers.
Although it is a rather solitary animal, the 2 snow leopards are forced to live together at the animal park and it goes rather well. Arrived a year ago Nala gets along very well with Gabriel. She really enjoys spending time with him. There have been matings, so the park is crossing its fingers for the rest….
The snow leopard in great danger of extinction
The Auvergne animal park tries to protect the snow leopard by raising awareness, by breeding, and it supports an association ” Snow Leopard Trust“, who tries to find compromises with the farmers. The panther has less and less prey in the natural environment, less habitat. As a result, it is hunted so that it does not attack livestock. the more magnificent the snow leopard, it is therefore also hunted for its fur.
In an attempt to observe Nala and Gabriel, the 2 snow panthers, head to house number 38
