Firefighters in Paris and the Paris region have been receiving calls for several hours this Tuesday, following the smell of smoke. These are the consequences of the fires in Gironde, more than 500km from the capital. “The sky is cloudy, a little hazy and you can smell the smell of burning“, confirms on franceinfo this Tuesday Sébastien Léas, forecaster for Météo France.

The reason ? The versatility of the wind.☎️ 18: don’t clutter the help lines. Only call the fire department if there is a fire. pic.twitter.com/X8FfjUCZO9

“You may smell a burning smell outside.“, also confirms on social networks the Paris police headquarters. “This smell certainly comes from the ongoing fires that are raging in France. The reason ? The versatility of the winds. 18: do not block the emergency lines. Only call the fire department if there is a fire.“
The phenomenon is due to the arrival of a mass of cooler air on the Atlantic coast, which redirected the flow of smoke, from the banks of the Garonne to Île-de-France, via the Touraine. The fumes should disperse in the next few days, according to the weather forecast.
“It’s a fairly standard phenomenon.“, explains Sébastien Léas. “We see this quite regularly, with the sand from the Sahara, for example, reaching France. Or during the violent fires in Colorado, in the United States in 2021, which had brought fine particles to the other side of the Atlantic.“
