“Big John”, the world’s largest triceratops, will go up for auction, with an initial price of one million euros. This sale will take place in Paris, where a handful of individuals will be able to afford the skeleton.

Eight meters long, three meters high and 66 million years old: this is “Big John”, the triceratops which is currently on display in Paris, before its auction. A fossil that attracts many curious people of all ages, all amazed. “It’s amazing, it’s the first time we’ve seen this, and it’s beautiful”, says a mother. The youngest imagine the loads carried out by this dinosaur using its large horns.

“Big John” was found in 2014, in the plains of the American Midwest, before being sent to Italy for restoration, then a transfer to Paris for its assembly, where 200 bones were identified to reconstruct it. A special piece, because the skeleton was found in its almost totality. It will make a new trip, to its future buyer: its price, starting at one million euros, is too high for museums. About ten private buyers are on the case.
