During the water resource monitoring committee held this Wednesday at the Corrèze prefecture, the inventory of the drought appeared particularly worrying. The secretary general of the prefecture therefore decided to place the whole department in a state of crisisthe highest level of alert.
Thus, the restrictions on the use of water are increased to their maximum: all water withdrawals are strictly prohibited including for the agricultural sector, excluding priority needs (drinking water, watering of animals and exceptional cases).
The drought has gotten worse in recent days.
Since the beginning of July, only 4 mm of rain fell in Corrèzea situation never seen since the beginning of meteorological records in 1959. More and more rivers are experiencing flow difficulties with, now, theappearance of puddles and dirt in some of them.
A rapid drop in flows is observed at the 13 hydrometric stations of the department, four of which crossed the crisis threshold. Seven other stations risk crossing this threshold in the very short term.
Some municipalities have already had to set up cisterns to supply drinking water networks, and many others are beginning to consider it.
