Bakhmout, in Ukraine, would have been entirely taken by the Wagner militia, Saturday May 20. But doubt remains about the veracity of these facts, while kyiv disputes. Live from Ukraine, Maryse Burgot takes stock of the situation.
Moscow claimed responsibility for taking Bakhmout on Saturday May 20, but President Zelensky contests. “Who to believe? It’s a communication battle, so we’re a little tempted not to believe anyone, no more the Russians than the Ukrainians.” explains Maryse Burgot, live from Kramatorsk (Ukraine) for the 13 Hours. One certainty remains, Bakhmout is a city reduced to ashes.
The Russians surrounded in the city
“It is therefore a totally devastated city which the Russian forces have just taken control of. The other information we are sure of is that the Ukrainians have taken, in recent days, a few square kilometers on the northern and southern flanks of this city of Bakhmout”, reports the journalist, allowing them to say that they almost surrounded the enemy there. “The Russians will have a lot of difficulty getting out of Bakhmout and coming towards Kramatorsk, which is much more strategic”, concludes Maryse Burgot.
