In Mourenx (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), the Singles Tower was destroyed in just a few seconds. Several residents, curious and nostalgic, witnessed the end of an era. “It was an emblem of the city., assures a man. In 1961, a new town sprang up after the discovery of a gas deposit in the neighboring town of Lacq. It was then necessary to house 10,000 inhabitants on former swamps.
Memories of former tenants
The Singles Tower houses 99 spacious and modern accommodations with bathrooms. Sixty-two years later, the tower was deserted. In the spring of 2023, former tenants recalled their memories in this accommodation. “We were there, we had good years”, testified Jean-Claude Larrue, a former tenant. For her part, Liliane Amorin, a former tenant, lived three floors from the tower after meeting her husband and having a child. The rubble will be replaced by a brand new six-story building.
