Mustard, oil: in some supermarket shelves, there are shortages of certain products. It seems to be here to stay.

In recent months, our supermarket shelves have emptied. Outage rates that reach record levels: 5.7% this year, compared to 3.8% in 2021. They are partly explained by the fear of missing out among many customers. Among the products that have been missed the most since March, mustard comes first, followed by salad dressing, products for the fire, oil and still and sparkling water.

The causes of these shortages are multiple. There is war in Ukraine, but also poor harvests due to the weather, or global transport slowed down by Covid-19. According to Pascale Hébel, consumer expert, these stockouts are not ready to stop. Since the beginning of the year, these ruptures would have generated 2.7 billion euros of loss of profit for the large distribution.
