Known for being the finale of the first season of Star Academy, Mario Barravecchia is in the news today because he has just released a book entitled “My father, my battle – From song to Charcot’s disease“. In this work, the former singer opens up about his career but also about his relationship with his father, who suffers from Charcot’s disease.
“It is an intimate, moving and full of humanity testimony about my relationship with my father. A colorful relationship with Pino, this Sicilian immigrant who arrived in Belgium in the 70s. In 2009, I learned that “he suffered from Charcot’s disease which took his life after 6 months. My father who was also my first producer and who did everything to make my dream come true” declared Jenifer’s former friend to describe his book.
This Wednesday, September 27, 2023, Mario Barravecchia was expected on the set of the show “PAF” on C8. Faced with Pascale de La Tour du Pin, he once again spoke about the painful months linked to the end of his father’s life. As a reminder, Charcot disease which is characterized by a progressive loss of motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord.“My dad died in 2009 from Charcot’s disease, at the time we didn’t know what it was. His brother died the same year and we didn’t know what it was either… “ he said. “It begins by affecting the brain and the spinal cord and ends with atrophy of the muscles. It is a disease, when we announce it, we know that we have between 2-3 years and 5 years, hopefully of life”. A poignant testimony which moves but at the same time raises awareness about this still little-known disease.
