He was wanted by the police, and yet participated in a game show. The serial killer and rapist “Le Grêlé”, François Vérove by his namehad participated in 2019 in the France 2 program “Everyone wants to take their place”, franceinfo learned from a police source, confirming information from Marianne. He was then wanted since the 1980s, and committed suicide two years later, in 2021. He was eliminated from the game presented by Nagui in the first round.

The wife of François Vérove had assured the journalist Patricia Tourancheau, author of the book Le Grêlé: the killer was a cop, that her husband did not try to conceal his identity, even participating in this program, but without being able to remember the year. Images from the show had not reappeared until then.

It was in September 2021, after thirty-five years of investigation by the criminal brigade, that François Vérove was confused by a vast genetic sampling operation from some 750 former gendarmes stationed in the Paris region in the 1980s and 1990s. A few days after his summons to the judicial police, François Vérove killed himself, leaving behind a letter of confession and farewell. He suggested that he had stopped his attacks in 1997, even though the last crime judicially attributed to him dates back to 1994.
