The Senators fire their general manager, Pierre Dorion

The Ottawa Senators have fired their general manager, Pierre Dorion.

The team made the announcement during a press conference held Wednesday afternoon at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Steve Staios, Senators president of hockey operations, will take over as general manager in an interim role.

The decision to fire Pierre Dorion comes after the National Hockey League announced the Senators would be stripped of a first-round draft pick for their role in the failed trade that would have sent forward Evgenii Dadonov to the Vegas Golden Knights at Anaheim Ducks, March 2022.

Last week, Senators forward Shane Pinto received a 41-game suspension for “activities related to sports betting.”

Pierre Dorion was named general manager of the Senators in April 2016, when it was announced that the late Bryan Murray would be leaving his position.
