Pollution: the Seine, a river of plastic?
Pollution: the Seine, a river of plastic?
(France 2)
With tons of plastic washed up on the Seine, this raises many doubts a few months before the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.
A torrent of plastic bottles but also more surprising objects, like this ball or this tire. Almost every year, whenever the Seine floods, 20 kilometers downstream from Paris, local residents helplessly witness this surge of floating waste. “It’s quite upsetting. It’s absolute nonsense to see this waste in nature”deplores Olivier Boudot.
The flooding of the Seine required the opening of a lock
Due to the flooding of the Seine at the start of the week due to heavy rain, the opening of a lock was necessary. A significant amount of waste was present. “We’ve gradually become fed up. We’ve requested the presence of the State on several occasions”underlines Cédric Pemba-Marine, mayor of Port-Marly (Yvelines). HAS As the Olympics approach, this pollution of the Seine raises questions.
