“We were extremely shocked by what happened on Friday”, declared Monday March 18 the Minister of National Education, Nicole Belloubet, visiting Chenôve (Côte-d’Or), where the principal of the Edouard-Herriot college was threatened with a knife by a student on Friday. This 15-year-old minor was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention. He had in his possession a letter, in which he stated his intention to kill and take hostages.

The minister first went to the establishment to meet the staff, the principal and the students. “I thanked them for having implemented all the procedures which made it possible to avoid the tragedy”she said at the end of this interview. “The authority of teachers must be respected everywhere, that of school heads too”added the minister, providing support to the educational community.

“If we look at what happened, it seems to me that we can confirm that the security procedures worked well,” also assured Nicole Belloubet. If there were no injuries, “this is because we have prevention and security plans which have been activated in this establishment”.
