The middle school diploma will ultimately not be changed this year, franceinfo learned on Monday, September 16, from ministerial and union sources. However, the outgoing government had planned to change the terms of awarding the diploma that marks the end of the 3rd year, from the 2025 session, by modifying the balance between continuous assessment and final exams and by making the diploma mandatory for moving on to high school.
Before being published, the texts modifying the patent must go to the Higher Council of Education (CSE) for advice, but the next one is not scheduled until October 10. Their publications “had to be postponed due to current affairs, but they are ready and as soon as this period ends, we should be able to ensure their publication so that they can come into force for the 2025 National Brevet Diploma”had declared the resigning Minister of National Education Nicole Belloubet, during a press conference on Tuesday, August 27. The two modifications will therefore not be implemented this 2024-2025 school year.
The modification of the patent was part of the “clash of knowledge”, a set of measures launched by Gabriel Attal, in December 2023, when he was Minister of National Education. Now, we must wait and see what the next Minister of National Education decides, possibly for the 2026 session.
