According to France Bleu Provence, the Court of Cassation is looking into the case of Omar Raddad on Thursday, who made a second request for a review of his conviction.

The second request for revision of the conviction of Omar Raddad will be examined Thursday, November 25 by the Court of Cassation, indicates Monday France Bleu Provence. Designated as being the culprit of the murder of the rich heiress Ghislaine Marchal, in 1991, by the message “Omar killed me” (sic) inscribed with the victim’s blood, the Moroccan gardener focuses his defense on new analyzes of DNA found on two doors and a chevron at the scene of the crime.
“None of the four DNA fingerprints match that of Omar Raddad”, affirmed last June on Franceinfo the lawyer of the gardener, Master Sylvie Noachovitch. Two DNAs are perfectly exploitable and two others partially. “These genetic traces could have been deposited by the author of the inscription, who would then not be Mrs. Marchal but potentially the real murderer”, believes the defense of Omar Raddad who hopes to justify further research, especially within the family of the victim.
Omar Raddad was sentenced in 1994 to 18 years in prison, with no possibility of appeal at the time. The gardener then benefited from a presidential pardon from President Chirac and then released on parole in 1998.
A first request for review was rejected in 2002 in this criminal case. Reviews of criminal convictions are indeed rare in France in criminal cases: since 1945, only ten accused have benefited during their lifetime from a review and an acquittal.
