(Paris) Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo said the Saudi championship was “more competitive” than the French championship, in which he has never played, on Friday at the Globe Soccer Awards ceremony in Dubai.
“To be honest, I think the Saudi championship is not worse than the French championship. I think it is more competitive,” said the five-time Ballon d’Or winner after being asked about the level of the Saudi Pro League.
“They can say what they want, it’s just my opinion and I played here for a year so I know what I’m talking about,” added the Portuguese. I think that now we are better than the French championship, and we continue to improve.”
Saudi Arabia has launched major maneuvers to exist on the global football scene by attracting several of its stars to its championship, starting with the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, who arrived at Al-Nassr last January.
Several clubs then attracted stars of world football this summer, from the French Ballon d’Or Karim Benzema to the Brazilian Neymar, also including the Frenchman N’Golo Kanté, the Senegalese Sadio Mané and the Algerian Riyad Mahrez.
