The 800 employees concerned work in the SAQ warehouses and are responsible in particular for supplying branches and restaurants.

The local section of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), affiliated with the FTQ, had nevertheless reached an agreement in principle with the management of the SAQ on November 29. But it was rejected by the members in a proportion of 86%, and this, even if the union recommended its acceptance.

The union members had only walked out for a few days, but the repercussions were quickly felt on the shelves of the branches, which had been thinning out. The strike was suspended with the resumption of talks.

The management of the SAQ, like the CUPE, wishes to resume discussions quickly in order to identify what displeased the members in the agreement in principle and to try to remedy it.

Several points were in dispute, such as wages, overtime, the status of precarious employees and occupational health and safety issues.
