The Santé Québec agency will clean up current programs

The future president and CEO of Santé Québec, who must be appointed by the end of April, will have the mission of cleaning up health programs from the first year of his mandate. The Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, believes that this is “the ideal year” to engage in this “exercise” ordered by the Minister of Finance, Eric Girard, and the President of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel.

The day after the presentation of the 2024-2025 budget, Christian Dubé indicated that he considered that “the arrival of Santé Québec” was timely to review health programs. “We have a great opportunity in health, which represents 40% of the budget [du Québec]to make a good review of the programs,” he said in a press scrum at the National Assembly.

Minister Eric Girard plans an increase in health spending of 4.2% in his 2024-2025 budget. A rate of growth in spending which is, however, expected to slow down in the coming years, he indicated at a press conference on Tuesday.

Minister Christian Dubé believes that his colleague gives him the financial “means” to achieve the objectives of his health plan, which aims in particular to improve access to care and services. “I’m happy,” he said.

He recalls that since the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) came to power, the health budget “has increased by 50%”. “We went from 40 billion to more than 60 billion,” he said.

According to the minister, the health initiatives put in place are starting to bear fruit. “This is the first time that we have had so many green indicators,” he said. We are improving ourselves. »
