After an exceptional year in 2020, the French continued to favor internet commerce in 2021. The Federation of e-commerce and distance selling (Fevad), which brings together some 750 companies, has published its annual report on online sales, Thursday 3 February. The sale of services, which includes transport, tourism and leisure, increased by 44% in one year, thanks to the lifting of health restrictions. However, it remains down 16% compared to 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.
For their part, online sales of goods continued to grow, by +7% compared to 2020 and +42% compared to 2019. Fevad estimates that 66.7 billion euros of products were sold in line in 2021, which represents 14.1% of retail trade in France, compared to 13.4% a year earlier and less than 10% before Covid-19.
The year 2020 had seen the sector explode due to the closure of many stores during confinement, and the question arose as to whether online sales would continue to grow in 2022. “A level has been crossed and consolidated”estimated the delegate general of Fevad on Wednesday.
