A firm measure. Faced with the severe drought affecting the Pyrénées-Orientales, the prefecture will ban the sale of above ground swimming pools. This was announced on Friday May 5 by the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Christophe Béchu, on RTL. Watering gardens, filling swimming pools and washing cars at home are already prohibited in the department.

The Minister also announced the presentation “in a few days” of a new “drought guide” who will list the rules “minimal” which must be put in place by the prefects according to the levels of restriction.
Under the effect of global warming, caused by our consumption of coal, oil and gas, France has been confronted in recent years with more frequent and severe droughts. At the beginning of May, twenty departments are affected by water restrictions.
